A Good Friday

Pastor Nestor Aveiro meditates on the Jesus' second word, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43)

Our blessings and good wishes to everyone who just celebrated Easter, and to those who are wrapping up Passover. Here in the southern hemisphere, we split our Holy Week time between Paraguay and Argentina. On Good Friday, we attended the service of the Last Seven Words in Lambaré, Paraguay. “Seven words” refers to the seven sentences Christ spoke from the cross before he died. Heard together, the sentences help us better understand the depth of Jesus’ suffering on the cross, and the extent of his love and forgiveness even in the midst of his great physical agony.

In Lambaré, several Disciples of Christ pastors from all over Asunción delivered brief meditations on the sentences.

After the service, we stayed in Lambaré for the church’s annual Good Friday campfire. The moving Seven Words worship service put us in just the right frame of mind to appreciate the quiet intimacy of the firelight.
